UDMF Under Questions

 Randhir Chaudhary
Any parties having similar opinion, principles and policy can join the Morcha; has been enshrined in the eight points understanding done while reviving the United Democratic Madhesi Front on November 24. Since the re-establishment of the Morcha, it has been framed in several questions. Why two fringes- Federal Sadbhawna Party and Madhesi Janadhikaar Forum-Republican have not been given space in the Morcha? MJF-Republican led by Rajkishor Yadav had separated from the MJF-Nepal and Federal Sadbhawna Party led by Anil Jha- was separated from Sadbhawna Party led by Rajendra Mahato. According to one of the Madhes based journalists, Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato; fenced the two parties to have space in the UDMF. Purpose of any alliance is to achieve joint strategic goal. Questions again come, do these parties and leaders in the newly revived front have similar goal and way? Although UDMF constituents have common standings to empower Madhesis, Marginalized communities and inclusion issue, but are seeming scattered on the core issues of the constitution drafting like, form of governance and number of provinces in the Madhes. MJF-Nepal advocates single "Madhes Pradesh" in the Terai while the other factions say they will go with the idea of two provinces in the Madhes if federal units are carved out as per the report of the erstwhile State Restructuring Commission (SRC). Upendra Yadav- led MJF-Nepal is rigid for directly elected president while other constituents in the Morcha have advocating for the parliamentary form of governance. After having such a huge differences they have revived the Morcha, how and for what motives? In the last Constitution Assembly this Morcha had played a very vital role to give base to any government. It was the strongest crutch for Baburam Bhattarai to form and prolong his government. I have interacted with so many Madhesi friends on twitter regarding the probable roadmap of this Morcha. It has not been taken seriously by any one.
Formation of this Morcha; certainly have some motives. Involved parties and the leaders in the Morcha; trying to get support from the people. They just want to show they are united here in the Kathmandu. But, on completion of Madhes Movement, ek madhes ek prades was floated over by the leaders and recently majority are seen agreed on two provinces in the Terai. Some are still seeming vocal on ek madhes ek prades, without having a clear cut idea about the possibility.
These days Madhesi People have reduced their belief on the leaders who are sprawling in Kathmandu. They all have a perception that when Madhesi Parties have to join the government they do drama of unification and formation of Morcha. Terai Madhes National Campaign led by Jay Prakash Gupta, cleverly reaping the harvest seen after the arrestment of CK Raut. TMNC has been igniting the Madhesi people for their right and the failure of Madhesi Parties. TMNC is getting organized in the ground level whereas the Parties in Morcha are getting disorganized.
The activities of this myopic Morcha and the consequences may be a litmus test for the involved leaders' future politics. First, they should be on the same page regarding the contentious issues of constitution drafting process. If they really want to show something better to the madhesi people then they should be united. They should have a single party and unified agenda on Madhes.
